It had been decided earlier in the year at an Executive meeting that we would combine a community day with much needed maintenance work at our Scout HQ.

As our hut is alongside a public footpath the spec for the day was to clear rubbish, tidy and plant alongside some of the path.

Armed with black bin liners protective gloves, litter pickers, spades, trowels, plants and lots of enthusiasm,  Beavers, Cubs and Scouts came with their parents, siblings and grandparents and set off to litter pick the path.

Meanwhile other volunteers started applying a protective coating to the outsides of the huts in our grounds. Fire pits were weeded and tidied, rubbish burnt and a general tidy up was achieved. Everybody mucked in got very messy, drank tea, ate lots of biscuits and achieved loads.

At the end of the day when all the bags of rubbish were removed the last of the garden waste burnt, and a barbecue enjoyed by all the helpers. The AGM was then held with new committee members installed, all went home for a much deserved rest having achieved so much because of the communal effort.
